LAWYERS OF KIELTYKA GLADKOWSKI KG LEGAL TAKE PART IN THE 6TH CONFERENCE ON NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

KG LEGAL KIELTYKA GLADKOWSKI is pleased to announce that our lawyers will participate in the 6th Conference on “New Technologies and Artificial Intelligence: Legal and Practical Aspects of the Digital Economy,” which will take place on October 25-26, 2024. This event, organized by the Department of Economic, Civil and Digital Economy Law at the University of National Education Commission in Kraków, and co-organized by the Department of Civil and Private International Law at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University, the National Information Processing Institute – State Research Institute, and the Academy of New Technology Law (UKEN), is one of the most important meetings concerning the legal aspects of new technologies in Poland.

The conference will be dedicated to a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and opportunities brought by the development of artificial intelligence and other technological innovations, which are increasingly influencing the law, the economy, and social life. The main goal of the event is to address key regulatory, legal, and practical issues related to the implementation of new technologies, both from a national and international perspective. The conference program includes several key thematic panels:

Digitization of Judicial and Administrative Proceedings

The first panel will focus on the growing importance of digitizing legal and administrative processes. Experts will present examples of effective IT solutions used in common courts, such as “electronic order proceedings,” which allow of significant acceleration of procedures. This panel will also address the issue of “legal responsibility arising from the use of artificial intelligence in public administration.” In addition, potential pathologies related to the implementation of new technologies in tax proceedings will be discussed, as well as the opportunities that their use brings in enforcement proceedings and administrative courts. Special attention will also be given to the role of international human rights, democracy, and the rule of law regulations, especially in the context of the Council of Europe’s Convention on Artificial Intelligence, which forms the basis for new technology regulations in 2024.

Intellectual Property Protection and Artificial Intelligence

The second panel will focus on the challenges related to intellectual property protection in the era of artificial intelligence. The development of AI raises questions about strategies for protecting inventions and technological solutions created using intelligent algorithms. Discussions will cover copyright and patent rights related to works generated by artificial intelligence. Speakers will also examine issues of presumed authorship of AI-created works. The panel will explore topics such as labeling products generated by AI under the Polish Unfair Competition Act and the impact of these tools on the assessment of an invention’s novelty. Additionally, the panel will address the evolution of authorship concepts and legal frameworks surrounding text and data mining by computer programs, in the context of fair use.

Artificial Intelligence in the Sphere of Personal Data and Beyond

This panel will focus on the activities of artificial intelligence in the realm of personal data. Speakers will discuss the challenges posed by AI with regard to human oversight of automated decision-making systems. The integrated data systems and privacy protections within the framework of the GDPR and the Artificial Intelligence Act will be explored. Further analysis will cover issues such as the possibility of switching service providers and data portability based on the Data Act, and regulations dealing with the challenges of reusing public sector information. A particularly significant point of this panel will be the analysis of problems and challenges for Polish lawmakers and public administration in establishing a national authority for artificial intelligence.

The Application of Artificial Intelligence in the Economy and Social Life

The fourth panel of the conference will be dedicated to the practical aspects of using artificial intelligence in the economy and social life. Experts will discuss the impact of AI-powered chatbots on consumer law and new concerns regarding the functioning of these tools within the framework of legal regulations. Additionally, the panel will explore topics related to the use of artificial intelligence in the digital economy (FashTech). Furthermore, speakers will focus on the topic of the “AI Act in the insurance sector” and will describe measures aimed at countering disinformation, especially in the context of the Artificial Intelligence Act. Challenges related to the use of new technologies in the creation of academic papers and potential risks associated with violations of ethical and legal principles in this area will also be addressed.

New Trends in Technology Law

The second day of the conference will open with a panel dedicated to the latest trends in law concerning new technologies. Presentations will cover the work of the Council of Europe in the area of legal regulations regarding AI and the issue of labeling content generated by AI systems. Experts will also address the matter of artificial intelligence and data collected within the framework of the BRIS registry integration system, highlighting the new challenges AI poses for EU legal frameworks. This panel will also provide an opportunity for a detailed analysis of the role of whistleblowers in copyright protection and the discussion of the latest legislative proposals in this area.

Young Researchers Panel

The conference will conclude with presentations by young researchers, who will share their studies on topics such as deepfake technology, its legality, and the legal aspects of artificial intelligence’s legal personality. The discussions will also cover problematic issues surrounding the legal personality of AI, the posthumous use of personal likeness, and the limits of using works within the framework of machine learning.
