On 17 October 2024 our lawyers participated, upon invitation, in the event held at the Embassy of Belgium in Warsaw, Poland.
The panel discussion concerned Biopharma ecosystems in Belgium and the potential of internationalisation. Through a panel discussion with renowned Belgian experts, participants had a unique opportunity to learn more about the Belgian know-how in the biopharma sector. The objective was not only to talk about Belgium, but also to open discussions in view of possible future partnerships with Poland. Among other things, there was discussed the role of KTOs (Knowledge Transfer Offices) and how to grow from research to the spin-off creation and then to companies.
The speakers included Eric Wyart of Lieu, Christophe Coppens of hub.brussels, Johan Lecocq of MEDVIa Cluster. The special guest also included Magdalena Kulczycka, President of the Association of Biotechnology Companies BioForum, Poland.
The discussion covered competitiveness of Polish market in biopharma and digital health. Challenges in legislation, maturity of IP, fundraising in life sciences, cross over of technologies and coaching of entrepreneurs for going into market with biopharma and med tech start-ups.
The speakers drew attention to investments in Poland and Belgium within biotech and pharma and the challenges involving maturity of IP, fundraising for research, commercialization of IP, IP valuation, tech transfers, cooperation with study centres and research and development centres, legislation and lobbying activities.
The event was a perfect occasion for our partners to exchange experience gained in the involvement in the American Bar Association International Law Section Life Sciences Committee where our lawyers hold chairing functions.
